International Roots Homecoming Festival

This festival which is now an annual event, centers on the spiritual, cultural, and historical orientation of a celebration of freedom. It spans about 7 to 8 days, offering excursions to the Katchically Sacred Pool and the Albreda Slavery Museum. Experience the vibrant trade fair, African artifacts and cloth, musical bonanza of artists from the continent, cultural night and theater, and the home of Alex Hailey, the great, great, great grandson of Kunta Kinteh and author of the historical novel Roots.

The International Roots Festival is one of the greatest homecoming events of the Diaspora and non-Africans around the world. It is welcoming, it is inspiring, it is exhilarating, it is emotional, but most of all it is about a welcome home extended to the world.

The Gambia, the smallest nation in Africa, opens its arms to everyone and once again the hospitality is poured on those that reciprocate the Smiling Coast's warm embrace.
